Areti Kloutsinioti

The themes of my works are always depictions of admiration for living nature. In my painting I use a specific repertoire of forms. My work had been advocating for biodiversity and the value of life, that has become so complex, and as far as I predict, it will continue to do so for a long time to come.

My work is characterized by dense in color and composition. Its production is time-consuming and laborious. I use a mixed technique which includes painting on canvas and collage (from canvas to canvas, I use many painting surfaces). Most paintings, constructional and conceptual, are composed on many stages. The collages that are designed to be incorporated on the main canvas, are being painted on a hagiography canvas separately. After I finish the long procedure of creating the whole world of forms by painting on hagiography canvas, then I attach each one of these small creations on my main canvas, “the broad universe”. And when everything is attached, I paint again the on the final composition.

My aim is to create a multi-dimensional world, where all the shapes and forms are finally connected, expanding and conquering the space while beating and moving with the pulse and the vitality of crowded and interacting entities, as in any "wild" [not domesticated or captured] ecosystem. Due to my “layering” technique, the final composition conveys the perception of various levels unfolding in front of the eye.

My works are conceptually my own comments on the symbiotic relationship of man with the rest of nature (especially with living nature), which has become a relationship determined by delusions of control/imposition/domination. For me, the psychological reintegration of man into nature by removing the relevant resistances is an important issue for several years and -in one way or another- I try both individually and socially (artistic and collective) to promote it.

I use the pseudonym "CatK", which means Kloutsiniotis Cat, I introduce in my name my particularly tender feelings for the cats.
